Current Season: Mid Spring Game: Decent Weather: Although the clouds are covering the land, Alteron still has a wonderful beauty. The temperature has dropped slightly, and after lask week's intense heat many find the new weather a relief. Even though the land is a bit colder, it has become a little dry as of late. Plot/Background Story: The sun had just risen above the red horizon, scattering all the darkness of night into the shadows. And while the creatures of the night had settled into their homes for sleep, a new world was awakening. On a ledge of a mountain, a great dragon sunned his old scales while a pack of young dragonlings surrounded him asking for stories. A black dragoness by the name of Arai pushed her way forward until she stood by the Elder's side. Neck arched with pride she asked a question that had been bothering her for a while. 'Sir, what caused the Great War?' Instantly the Elder's eyes open and his head swung to look at the little dragon. Squinting his old eyes, the Elder looked down at Arai with a critical eye wondering why such a young dragon wished to know this. But with a sigh he realized that she would not rest until her questioned was answered by someone. The Elder changed positions, his whole body turning to face the youngsters. His tail herded them in closer as he leaned in to talk to them. His voice was cracked and dry so the dragonlings, in turn, leaned forward to catch every word. Mummers of approval and curiosity were quieted when the Elder began his story. He told them, how long ago the land was young and new. That the mountains had just been formed and the valley bellow them was blooming in spring for the first time. And that the three great clans had just been founded and the Alphas had just claimed their territories. And then he went on to tell them of their clan's founder, Daex, whose name has become the clan's. And he told the dragons how Daex was a black as the night sky but her grey eyes shone like the fiery sun. And that she was lithe and thin, and that no one in her clan was nearly as fast as she. And he told them of how she cared gently for her clan, making sure that each member was safe before sleeping at night. And of how Daex was the last out hunting or searching for a lost friend. And that she protected her clan with her life, daring to go to the ends of the Earth if nessicary to aid a clan member in distress. And her daemon, Thought, a black wolf with the same piercing gray eyes as her. Next, the elder spoke of Velox whose clan lived in the mountain to the East. And how although he was of average size won his fights with his knowledge. Then he went on to talk of Velox's gold color and how even when the sun set dragons could see him. And how he always visited with Elders trying to learn something new each day. And that Velox tried to remain humble, listening to other's thoughts and ideas whenever possible. He talked of how Velox trained the young ones himself, always being gentle with them. And that he would spend time with even the Omegas, trying to make the clan better for them. And finally, the Elder talked of his daemon. A great golden eagle by the name of Ore. And after speaking of each Alpha, the Elder went on the talk about the clan to the west's founder. That Essedarius was a rather large dragon with great strength. And of how he was the opposite of Daex in color, for Essedarius was as white as a cloud with light green eyes. Of how he patrolled the borders to make sure nothing entered his lands that could hurt one of his dragons. And he talked about Essedarius's great pride in taking young dragons to neutral territories where he could teach them about the land how to use it. And that he never left a clan member behind even if they betrayed him or were injured. And then the Elder spoke of his daemon, a small cougar that went by the name of Calico. He told them of how even many years ago, when the world had not yet seen wars, there still was violence and hate. And that one by one each of the great clans had a member slaughtered in the middle of the night. But although hate existed, it was new to the world and its inhabitants. And so the clans turned to their leaders asking for them to avenge their fallen friends. And each agreed and left after telling their clans to stay in the mountain's safety. And so the Elder told the hatchlings of the battle the Alphas fought. Of how it was bitter and lasted for days. And that each dragon refused to back down wanting to honor the memory of their fallen clan members. Of the ancient magic they used that was now lost to all dragons. At that on the third day each dragon rose high into the sky latching on to another biting and clawing. And then in a sad voice, he talked how together they fell down to Earth all exhausted from their battle. And that they slept for over a day, but the clans had to remain on their mountains because of their Alpha's orders. He spoke of how Velox was the first to wake, and believed that her opponents laid dead now. And how he retuned to his clan, believing that he had won them honor. And that both Daex and Essedarius woke at the same time, but did not fight again for something else had occurred. Both of their daemons had been killed in the battle, and each blamed Velox for it. And so each went back to their clan speaking of how Velox killed their daemons and ran off. And how before sunset Velox's own daemon was dead as well. The Elder spoke of how he blamed the other clans, and soon all three clans were back to fighting. And so the battle had ended. Nothing had been gained, but much had been lost. And the Elder spoke of how each clan now hated the other two and the many battles that followed. He spoke of the bloodshed, of the lives lost, and how even children were not safe. He told them how the fighting continued, the hate being passed down from generation to generation. And that knowledge of many magics was lost forever all for the sake of a war. Then, he spoke of how some refused to fight. Of how some saved lives with their gifts. And how these dragons eventually quelled the fighting and brought peace to the land. And with a smile, the Elder told the hatchlings that that was the end. The hatchlings talked amongst themselves about the story, discussing the original three Alphas and who they thought was right. And for a moment the Elder dragon was able to close his eyes and soak up the sun's rays in peace. That was of course, until a thin red dragon landed next to him a look of shock on his face. In a hushed voice the scout delivered his message. 'Elder, the clan needs you. Another string of murders has occurred. The Alphas want to discuss the possibility of going to war. I am to stay here and care for the children.' Panic filled the old dragon. Nodding, he opened his wings and took off. He knew that the other clans had been restless as of late. The Elder feared that this time he might not be able to prevent his clan from going to war. He glided to the top of the mountain and was greeted by grim faces. Walking past many dragons the Elder went straight to the clan leaders to argue against going to war. He was successful. Two years later, this Elder died. The new Elders spoke less of the horrors of war and taught hatchlings how to defend themselves. Every month at least one dragon disappeared, only to be found days later dead. Every dragon was on edge. Hate spread like a disease, although, many did not act on it. Clans became less trusting of outsiders. And everywhere dragons whispered about going to war. And the sad thing was, most were for it. Some dragons are having visions of a second Great War. And dragons in each clan wonder if it will come to pass. |
